Thank You Mr. Yadav

Just as I log on to my facebook account, I see my wall flooded with status updates seeking justice of Amitabh Thakur and my inbox with messages asking me to stay strong in these trying times. This too shall pass, they say. And well, I totally believe them. It shall pass soon enough. The human attention span is way too short for anything to stay long enough and hence this sudden spotlight on a so called activist IPS who is being tormented by the State government for raising his voice against corruption and mismanagement shall pass too. And what would remain is the same person still seeking justice and no one willing to give it to him.

This is not the first case where Governments have used oppressive measures against people who dare to raise their voice; and this would definitely not be the last. People are falsely accused, murdered and even raped all the time for mistakenly believing that they have been granted a fundamental right to speech and expression. Somehow they miss out on the fact that reasonable restrictions are imposed on these rights. But I don’t blame these people; after all the constitution makers failed to expressly mention that one ought not to try to speak the truth.

Anyhow, back to the issue. So here I see on facebook a few people wanting this man to be given justice; the same man who incidentally happens to be my father. But being his daughter, I fervently hope that authorities refrain from trying to serve any kind of justice to him. Because the justice you seem to get in UP these days, it seems safer to be getting none. Journalists being burnt, their mothers being raped before being burnt, people getting booked for any random offence the police and the ruling party fancies; all in the name of bringing law and order. In such a scenario I have my doubts about any person desiring such justice.

It is said that one needs to face the consequences of one’s action in this very lifetime. And hence it is quite obvious that one would have to face repercussions for trying to work for the betterment of the society and the governance. After all what is worse than trying to clean the system and working towards making the whole process more honest and transparent! My sincere regards to Mr. Yadav and the Ruling Party in UP for teaching me that honesty is definitely not the best policy. But the man I would forever be indebted to, is the one whom I have admired the most all my life for showing me that even though this might be the worst policy ever; at the end of the day there would be no regrets whether you get justice or not; whether your efforts are recognized or you remain an unsung hero.

PS: I am also awfully obliged Mr. Yadav that you allowed my brother and I to have the company of our father through your magnanimous act of sparing his life in Jasrana. Please continue to have this kindness. Just a humble request.
